How to fill out the ALGII simplified application form

April 9, 2020 by Kathleen Parker 11 Comments

The Easter bunny appears to have shown up a bit early. I’ve made a video explaining how to fill out the main application form for ALGII. At the point at which I start talking about health insurance, you can hear Frozen II blaring in the background. Welcome to “working at home”! I hope it’s helpful and I wish you a very happy Easter.

Can it be sent via email or it needs to be sent by post?

    Hi,
Thank you for sharing the video.
Does everybody who apply for ALG ll get approved, or could one get rejected for certain reasons? I am not sure if there is any criteria to be eligible for this.

There are plenty of reasons for which you might get rejected. They are too complex to list. A couple include: you actually have enough income to cover your living costs, you are not residing in Germany legally. If it’s too hard to figure out whether you’re eligible, I would just apply and let the job center figure it out. And if they decide you’re not eligible and you wish to contest this decision, you always can.

Does it make sense to still apply now (May 20th) Would only rent and health insurance be paid for June then? Would they backpay or reimburse me for those for the month of May – i am a freelance artist – and i lost my main client and main work at the beginning of May
    thanks

      Hi Aaron,
Yes, apply. LEA has just announced that it is extending the time period in which foreigners with a residence permit can apply for ALGII without endangering their permits; now it goes until 30.09.2020. If you can get your application in by tomorrow, you’d be paid for May too.

6 months from the beginning of the month in which you applied (whether you apply at the beginning or at the end of a month, you’ll be paid from the beginning of that month) OR until 31.12.2020 if you have a Berlin residence permit that would normally become invalidated.

Hallo, I am 30 years old this year, single (no children or husband), live by myself, never work since I move to Germany. If I apply now and I have assets above 5000€. Will I get the Alg II benefit? Because I have read ´´Recipients of ALG II and their partners who are of age and are in need of assistance are entitled to a property allowance of 150 Euros per completed year, at least 3,100 Euros, and a maximum of 9,750 – 10,050 Euros (ranked according to year of birth). For persons who were born before 1.1.1948, the deduction is 520 Euro per completed year. The maximum limit here is 33,800 Euros. Each child who is not of age and is in need of assistance is entitled to a deduction to the amount of 3,100 Euros.“. Thank you.

Hi Gaby. If you apply before the end of 2020, you can use the simplified application form VA – this form only asks you if you have significant assets or not (60,000 EUR as a single person). If you don’t, they don’t delve any deeper for the first 6 months. It’s a Corona exception. Now, there are some instances where they can’t use this simplified Corona method, but that’s case-specific. It is still definitely worth applying!
